Anodized aluminum railing with stainless steel cables.

This railing located just south of Issaquah uses the Alumarail product with our highly advanced discrete cable ended stainless wires. This home was trimmed out almost entirely with anodized aluminum around glass and concrete making the anodized railing a natural choice. Anodizing is an extremely durable finish on aluminum and is easier to care for than stainless steel. Anodized finish does not show fingerprints or scratches the way stainless sometimes can, it is also far more affordable than stainless railing. The alumarail system is also very strong, meeting the commercial use standard of 300 pound sideload resistance. Residential railings only must withstand 200 pounds. The railing easily withstands the 200 pound tension on the cables. This can be an issue with some railing systems. A magnetic actuating latch system was installed on the gate for ease of use and protection of the owners pets. The existing welded iron upper deck railing was completed with 2×2 inch extrusion and 7 runs of cable.

Why cable railing?

Stainless steel cable railing has a very modern appearance that compliments the home. Cables are a very low maintenance infill option that has a high level of transparency without the cleaning needs of glass. The layout of the railing enabled the project to be completed with only three sets of cables, a cost saving benefit. The majority of the cost of cable systems lies in the cable ends. longer runs can reduce costs significantly and are usually possible as long as it does not need to be drawn through multiple 90 degree corners.
