We were tasked with preparing this backyard deck for a major family event. The old deck was worn and dilapidated. Because of the significant amount of plants and trees that had made their home in the deck we decided it would be best to replace the decking and reinforce the existing frame. We also needed to add a generous footing and metal bracing to hold up the kiwi arbor that had grown to an impressive size.
The customer selected the color Dusk after we suggested using Vault from Deckorators. Vault decking is impervious to moisture from an installation in close proximity to the ground or a body of water. Contrary to a popular misconception this is not true for most wood/plastic composites. Vault is made from a mineral, calcium carbonate and polypropylene. It is drawn into a stranded orientation and is very strong and durable. The decking was affixed with Stowaway hidden fasteners and Cortex plug system where necessary.
A black coated aluminum cable railing was added on one side to keep guests on the deck. The rail incorporates our half-size intermediate posts for the most open look possible. A bench was fabricated using components from the railing system for a cohesive design.
The deck came out great and blends well with the stonework around the yard.
