Ipe is a fantastically durable and beautiful lumber from South America. It is often used in decking applications and municipal projects do to it’s strength. This deck is located on Mercer Island outside Seattle. The natural wood compliments the very organic feel of this home and landscaping. Stainless steel fasteners were used throughout the project and the decking was face fastened. Hidden fasteners are not recommended in the wet Pacific North West. Ioe does not need to be stained and in this climate maintaining a finish is very difficult so this deck will be left natural. It will weather to a graceful grey patina and only needs to be kept clean for decades of enjoyment.
WILD HOG RAILING
A popular look in the Seattle area is the hogwire railing or fence. Wild Hog is a product made specifically for the deck railing application. It has a very durable powder coat finish on it and comes in black and hammertone finish. Galvanized hogwire can rust or bleed onto the deck and rail. Wild hog comes in easy to use sizes for both flat rail and stair rail applications. This has been a very popular look for us. Cedar posts and a clear grade cedar top rail round out this railing.
